With the expected surge in Sri Lankan disposable incomes, there will be an accompanying increase in the demand for branded apparels. The Group’s Branded Apparel subsector is in prime position to benefit, having secured exclusive distribution rights for many of the world’s most valuable apparel brands: Levi’s,Nike, Mango and Giordano.
Appointed by Levi Strauss India (Pvt) Ltd. as the master distributor for Levi’s in 2009, Uni Walkers (Pvt) Ltd, a fully owned Softlogic subsidiary, has exclusive distribution rights for Levi’s entire range of apparel, including its iconic jeans collection, as well as casual wear for ladies and gentlemen, and accessories. As part of Softlogic’s multi-brand, multi-channel strategy, Levi’s products will be distributed through a flagship Levi’s store in Colombo 3, a premium shop-in-shop in Colombo 5, as well as through all leading fashion retail chains in Sri Lanka.
As the authorized distributor for Nike, the world’s leading designer, marketer, and distributor of authentic athletic footwear, apparel, equipment, and accessories, Uni Walkers (Pvt) Ltd. currently sells the brand at over 20 retail outlets, including most of all leading fashion retail chains. It is also in the process of establishing its first Nike flagship store in Colombo.
In the post war era with the opening up of the economy, we believe the retail apparel sector provides an enormous opportunity for the Group. Moving forwards the Group aspires to dominate the branded apparel sector with the accumulation of the world’s leading apparel brands. The country will have the opportunity to see the large malls that will come up within the next 2 to 3 years and we believe with the brand portfolio we hold, the company will be in a great position to leverage on common costs.
