Leisure Sector

Leisure and Recreation is one of the fastest developing  industries in the country reaping the post war dividends. As a virgin market, the sector’s growth prospects appear very promising, particularly in the short to medium term. According to Sri Lanka’s Tourism & Development Authority, the current capacity of approximately 15,510 rooms (2012 - from Graded Hotels and Resorts) can only cater to around 800,000 guests per annum; this is insufficient given the Sri Lankan government’s ambitious target of 2.5 million tourist arrivals by 2016. Industry experts estimate that the current capacity will have to be doubled to accommodate this influx; this is perceived to be unattainable over the medium term due to the long lead time for hotel development. Softlogic currently is in partnerships with global renowned hotel chains such as Movenpick and Centara. Softlogic’s already existing travel arm would add in a synergetic effect to the Group’s leisure operations. Countering voices of many industry experts that the leisure industry is hungry for professionally qualified global expertise, Softlogic’s partnerships addresses these concerns to some extent; both Softlogic’s hotels will be in the hands of global hospitality nuance, mixed with a spice of Sri Lankan culture. We have partnered with Movenpick, one of the world’s leading hotel chains to build a city hotel in Colombo, and also purchased the iconic Ceysands Hotel property which is operational in Bentota.
